The Trailblazer

Trailblazer Characteristics

Results Orientated

Decisive, tough, strong-willed, competitive, demanding, independent, results driven, make decisions quickly and with gusto, play to win, willing to take risks, courageous, set high standards, make your own rules and feel like a champ when you meet your goals.

Change

You want constant change and stimulation, so you get bored when you are not challenged.

Directness

Straight to the point, speak directly, can be blunt sometimes, willing to rock the boat and push up against the 'status quo' to get your views across to others. People who are slow to change or seem unwilling to change can annoy you.

Confrontation

You are not afraid of confrontation and can respond to it in a strong and direct manner.

Energy

Energy and drive to make things happen, take control in a crisis, push and force results when needed, stamina and the iron will to last the distance (even when times get tough and others are crumbling around you), natural leader.

Speed

Fast in everything you do, quick decision maker and action taker, grow impatient when a project is being slowed up through incompetence, easily perceive others as slow (and they annoy you), take charge when things get too slow or are not running smoothly, make decisions on gut feelings and a conceptual understanding. Can rush and do not always get all the facts and details. Believe you are right.

Potential Areas Of Strength

  • Self-reliant
  • Great in a crisis, because you can make decisions quickly
  • Push for better results, more speed and more productivity
  • Innovative in getting results
  • Maintain focus on goals at all times
  • Specific and direct
  • Provide direction and leadership
  • See the big picture
  • Can handle multiple projects
  • Push group toward decisions
  • Willing to speak out
  • Push against comfort zones and the status quo
  • Generally optimistic and have big goals and vision
  • Welcome challenges without fear
  • Accept risks
  • Adapt easily to changes
  • Develop new ideas and strategies
  • Competitive
  • Function well with heavy workloads

Potential Areas Of Development

  • You can negatively affect the morale of people by being irritated, aggressive, blunt, overbearing, demanding and too pushy. When irritated, it is easy for you to be disrespectful of others and forget common courtesy.
  • Under pressure, you can rush your decision-making processes and may lack concern about details, which can undermine business success.
  • You can take too many uncalculated risks.
  • You can create an unstable team environment where there is too much change happening far too quickly.
  • Other styles do not have your capacity for change, which can lead to you unintentionally undermining their morale.
  • You are often too rushed to analyse the details and plan projects effectively. This can be a major limitation and sabotage.
  • You can lack understanding and be very intolerant of others. If you are not careful, you can become an autocratic type of person who will not engender friendship, loyalty and trust from others.
  • You often will not listen properly or evaluate other people's opinions effectively. Instead, you impulsively rush to share your opinions and miss out on insight from others as a result.

Trailblazers As Sales People

Strengths

  • Ability to act, the courage and will to do what it takes
  • Maintain focus on sales goals and targets at all times
  • Competitive with other sales people
  • Hunter, constantly looking for prospects and sales closes
  • No hesitation to close the sale

Potential Areas Of Improvement

  • Under pressure, you can be pushy, abrupt, rude and emotionally disconnected from the prospect, leading to a loss of likability and trust.
  • Under pressure you can be unplanned and forget important data and details that are important to the prospect's decision making processes.
  • You can be too focused on your sales and financial targets rather than serving and helping the prospect (something the prospect will pick up on, which decreases trust and likability).

Career Alignment

Trailblazers are motivated by roles that are fast-paced, results oriented and full of challenge, have a risk element, have authority, provide opportunities for career advancement, ladders to climb, lots of change.

Trailblazers are demotivated in careers with high levels of routine and predictability, when they can't affect the outcome, where they can't express their point of view, where they are micro-managed and can't lead, where there is no challenge, are slowed down, or have little access to resources, and can't take risks or be challenged.
